Robert L. Taylor, known affectionately as “Bobby T.” died of an apparent heart attack on July 18, 2017, one day shy of his 64th birthday.

A lifelong, surfer, he traveled the world following his passion. Always smiling, he could light up a room with laughter telling stories of his many travels to far away places, survivors said.

Born and raised in West Baltimore, Maryland, he graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1971.

For the past 45 years, he made his home in Hampton Bays, frequently making trips to surf areas around the world.

He recently retired from his position of chef at The Driver’s Seat in Southampton, and later became a great friend to the Latino community by providing an informal taxi service, survivors said.

Mr. Taylor is survived by two younger brothers, Stephen and Jack; numerous cousins and two aunts. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary Taylor.

A Christian funeral service is being arranged.
