Robert Scribner | Amali Wijeweera
Amali Wijeweera and Robert Scribner Jr. held a small wedding celebration with close family and friends on May 15, 2022, in Westhampton Beach. The couple legally married in February 2021, in a closed courthouse ceremony in Virginia, due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The May wedding ceremony took place on the beach adjacent to the Bath & Tennis Resort on Dune Road in Westhampton Beach. The oceanfront ceremony was officiated by Father Chris Jubinski of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Westhampton Beach, and the bride’s parents offered Buddhist blessings.
Scribner, son of Jeanne and Robert “Bob” Scribner, grew up in Southampton Town, and serves in the Westhampton Ambulance and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5350, both located in Westhampton Beach. He obtained a B.A. from Fairfield University in international studies and Spanish, a masters from Virginia Tech in international affairs concentrating in global security, and a B.S.N. from the George Washington University. Scribner currently serves as a Naval officer and has deployed overseas several times over the past decade. He took a brief sabbatical from active-duty military service to serve the community as an intensive care unit registered nurse during the height of the pandemic. He actively mentors individuals interested in public service.
Wijeweera, daughter of Harsha and Lakshini Wijeweera, spent much of her childhood overseas and lived in Sri Lanka before moving to the United States, and grew up in Greenbelt, Maryland. She earned a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology and physiology from the University of Maryland and a masters in biohazardous threat agents and emerging infectious diseases from the Georgetown University School of Medicine. Wijeweera currently serves as a diplomat with the U.S. Department of State.
The couple began dating while both were in career transitions and first met for coffee just outside of Washington, D.C., in the Old Town area of Alexandria, Virginia. Bound by the love for travel, the beach, and public service, they strengthened their relationship throughout career milestones, the pandemic, and distance while Scribner deployed overseas.
As the wedding was limited to family and only a small number of close friends, the couple hopes to further celebrate with more friends and family in the future.
