Rosemary (Larson) Scammell of Westhampton, NY, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on February 7, 1944, in Bay Ridge, NY, Rosemary built a life centered around family, faith, and service.

Rosemary’s family included relatives, lifelong friends, and those she lovingly welcomed into her home and heart. She is survived by her husband of 57 years and love of her life, Dr. Terry Jon Scammell, and their three children: Kristine Nathan (Kevin), Tracy Echikson (Stephen), and Terry “TJ” Scammell Jr. (Elizabeth). Her grandchildren—Ryan, Brynn, Katy, Rex, Beck, Tyler, Vaughn, and Maya—were her greatest source of happiness. Rosemary shared a deep connection with her sister, Annmary (Larson) Windels, and was cherished as a “second Mom” by many others.

As a girl, Rosemary spent summers in Patchogue on Swan Lake Drive, where she developed her love of nature, family, and adventure. Her father, Edward Larson, taught her and her sister to ride bikes, explore brooks, and ice skate in winters, while her mother, Rose, instilled a love for reading and cooking—passions that shaped her life.

Rosemary will be remembered for her loving spirit, impeccable taste, and playful nature. She expressed her care through meals lovingly prepared for family—her beef stew and signature pasta salad were highlights. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she would thoughtfully ensure that every decoration told a story and every gift was carefully chosen. Rosemary had a keen eye for bargains, always finding the perfect outfit or pillow to keep herself and her home stylish. Her sense of humor was cherished by her family, whether playfully questioning your style choices or rolling her eyes at Terry’s shenanigans.

Deeply committed to her faith, Rosemary served her church as a Eucharistic minister and CCD teacher for over 20 years. She taught herself computer skills to support Terry’s dental practice and became a savvy investor in companies like Apple, Amazon, and Google. She also loved tending to her garden, birds, and fish. Traveling was a joy for her, especially to Hilton Head, SC, and she often ended her days with a crossword puzzle and her favorite vodka gimlet.

A funeral service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on October 19th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Immaculate Conception Church, where Rosemary was a parishioner for 43 years.
