Hampton Bays Man Arrested After 3-Hour Standoff With Police

Southampton Town Police arrested a Hampton Bays man Saturday night after a 3-hour standoff with police, who believed him to be armed, at a Springville Road home. Police say they were called shortly after 8 p.m. with a report that a man was menacing another person in the house with a firearm. At their last meeting, Southampton Village trustees heard ideas for significantly altering Somerset Avenue in order to decrease through traffic during the afternoon commute. Several things were notable. First, all three plans closed a quarter-mile stretch at the north end of Somerset permanently for southbound traffic.
