Seventh-graders at Southampton Intermediate School have been coding educational robots called Ozobots to demonstrate their knowledge of Lois Lowry’s novel “The Giver,” which they are reading in English language arts classes. Librarian Michelle Antonucci demonstrated how to program the robots by drawing lines and different colors on paper. Based on the novel’s theme of a dystopian society in which all aspects of life are controlled, the students drew up maps of their own dystopias and controlled their Ozobots based on different laws they created within groups.
