Seventy-seven Westhampton Beach High School seniors were inducted into the school’s World Language, Science and Math honor societies during a ceremony on November 9.
The World Language Honor Society requires that students maintain a 92 or higher average in every year of their respective language classes and be enrolled in an AP Spanish or AP French class during their senior year. The Science and Math honor societies also require a minimum 92 average across all science or math courses taken, plus enrollment in at least one AP science course or advanced math class as a senior.

For the first time since 1997, a Southampton High School singer has been named to the Suffolk County Music Educators Association All-County Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Senior Shea Rodriguez earned the honor based on her solo vocal performances at the New York State School Music Association adjudications last spring.
In addition to being a singer, Rodriguez also participates in her school’s theater program and theater programs outside of school. She holds multiple Teeny Award nominations and is currently directing a school play that will debut in December.
Additionally, she assists with the morning announcements at her school and the Special Olympics, and she volunteers at the Heart of the Hamptons, Southampton Youth Task Force and Act Two.
Eastport-South Manor Junior-Senior High School chemistry teacher Priscilla Tuttle recently presented at the Science Teachers Association of New York State’s annual conference.
Tuttle, who is also a member of the association’s executive board, was selected to present as a subject area representative in physics, an area which she previously taught.
Her presentation shared with the other distinguished educators at the conference how to adapt escape rooms and puzzle activities to introduce specific curriculum content in exciting and engaging ways.
“As a Suffolk STANYS member and teacher at ESM, I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to not only present my workshop but also to be able to network and become inspired by the other presenters,” Tuttle said. “The STANYS fall conference is a great place to find new ideas to bring back to our classrooms.”
The College Board recently recognized 51 Eastport-South Manor Junior-Senior High School students as Advanced Placement Scholars for their extraordinary performance on AP program exams.
The College Board’s AP program offers academically excelling students an opportunity to enroll in college-level courses while still in high school to earn college credit. The College Board recognizes varying levels of achievement based on students’performance on the course exams.
Thirty-six students were recognized as AP Scholars, receiving a score of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.
Attaining an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams, 11 students were named AP Scholars with Honor.
Thirteen students were recognized as AP Scholars with Distinction for achieving an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Bridgehampton School fifth-graders showcased a wax museum project where they learned about European explorers Hernán Cortés, Christopher Columbus, Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, Amerigo Vespucci and Hernando de Soto. Students even dressed as the explorers and shared their research with others.
Fourth graders refined their math skills with a fun holiday inspired game. Caitlyn Brown’s and Allie Federico’s students played the math game Unlock Thanksgiving. Starting with a corn cob challenge and ending with carving the turkey, the young mathematicians solved math challenges to move their game token to the next obstacle. Along the way, they encountered several detours to keep the action of the game interesting and fun.

Raynor Country Day School recently hosted its first annual cornhole competition with the Southampton Town Police Department. Police officers Eric Plum, Vinny Cagno, Eugene LaFurno, Pete D’Ancona, Detective Ryan Hughes, and Lt. Susan Ralph joined the sixth-grade students of Raynor Country Day School for the outdoor event. Each Southampton Town Police officer was partnered with a sixth-grade student as they competed head-to-head in multiple rounds of cornhole. After several rounds, the victory trophy was awarded to Officer Vinny Cagno and his partner, sixth-grader Mark Gashchenko. During the event, the Southampton Town Police Department were also provided with notes and cards of gratitude from the students to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition, the officers stayed for a Thanksgiving feast provided by Country Heroes in Westhampton Beach.

Ava Cuccia of Hampton Bays is now a member of the class of 2025 at Loyola University Maryland.
The New York Institute of Technology recently recognized medical students who serve on the College of Osteopathic Medicine’s student organizations and Michelle Jaromy of Westhampton, a member of the Student American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, was among them.
