Hampton Bays Elementary School third grade students in Jennifer Warren’s class got into the Valentine’s Day spirit through a hands-on art project. The students used tissue and laminate paper to carefully design their own colorful suncatchers, which now adorn the hallway outside their classroom door.

Pierson Middle School students in Suzanne Nicoletti’s music and chorus classes recently explored the tone chimes. Tone chimes are similar to hand bells and require focus and synchronous efforts. Throughout the month of January, Nicoletti decided to focus on an instrument other than the vocal cords and introduced the idea of creating music in a new way for her students.

East Quogue Elementary School students recently finished a unit on basketball. Primary grades focused on dribbling and shooting technique, as well as playing games such as Freeze Dribble and Dribble Thief.  Secondary students worked on basic skills, as well as footwork, jump shots and layups.  And, last week, the school participated in the Kids Heart Challenge/Hoops for Heart last week.  Students raised over $7,000 for American Heart Association and faculty and staff collected $295 for the Go Red for Women initiative.
