Southampton High School music students recently participated in the Hampton Music Educators Association’s annual music festival. Rehearsals and performances took place at Eastport-South Manor Junior-Senior High School, with Southampton students Casey Cartagena serving as concertmaster of the orchestra and Charlotte Arnzen as the principal cellist.
The student-musicians were: Band - Lilly Conklin, Sam Conklin, Burke Dunne, Liam Lavinio, Erion Ruhani and Evan Simioni; chorus - Brooke Bockhaus, Ronan Brady, Bella Duque, Beatriz Fino Morfogen, Isabel Fino Morfogen, Joe Lucas, Wyatt Race, Andres Raynor and Dhivya Sampath; and Orchestra - Charlotte Arnzen, Casey Cartagena, Julie Chiliquinga Nava, Jasmine Head and Mariely Isalde Gonzalez.
Beth Distefano and her fifth-graders presented a unique original assembly program based upon popular game shows. The entire production was written and prepared by the class, complete with original scenery and costumes.
Catholic Schools Week opened at the school with a pancake breakfast that served almost 300 people. It was prepared and hosted by the OLH 7 dads, and served by the Prep 7 students.
The annual senior Math Bee took a whole new format with students from grades five through eight wracking their brains to solve complex math problems. The final round produced a new champion, Prep 8’s Maxwell Notley of Shelter Island. He narrowly beat his classmate, James Paccasassi of Southampton, while Jan Gredysa captured third place.
Community outreach continues with separate drives to refresh Blessing Boxes of food and supplies in Hampton Bays, as well as a third grade effort to provide personal medical supplies for Ukraine.
Hampton Bays Elementary School and Hampton Bays Middle School students created vibrant, informative fire prevention posters as part of an art contest. The contest carried a theme of “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape!” The winning students were recognized during a recent board of education meeting and presented with certificates of achievement. The winners were, first through third respectively: in kindergarten - Gem Goleski, Gael Valdespino and Madison Fallo; first grade - Shaila Fajardo Pacheco, Anghie Soliz Vizhnay, and Kathy Sanchez; second grade - Maite Gonzalez Reyes, Juliette Berisha, and Aylin Guillen Santos; third grade - Emma Kirst, Ismael Bonilla Urbano, and Debbie Cabrera; fourth grade - Keylin Avalos Rodriguez, Mateo Albrecht-Argote, and Vanessa Soroka-Sanchez; fifth grade - Leo Ferrufino, Genesis DeRosas, and Katherine Pozdniakov; sixth grade - Carissa Raynor, Filip Poplawski, and Lizzy Andara; seventh grade - Lorelei Palmieri, Stella Bruno, and Eleanor Ramsay; eighth grade - Kendra Reeves, Britney Morales, and Tony Haddock.
The Sag Harbor Elementary prekindergarten will hold an orientation program on Wednesday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Sage Hall Gymnasium at the Sag Harbor Learning Center. Parents are invited to learn about the program, tour the school and meet its faulty.

SUNY Morrisville announced that Katy Koehne of Sag Harbor was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester, as were Isabella Moschetta and Aidan Loungueville of Hampton Bays.
Kate Quimby of Bridgehampton was named to the dean’s list at the University of Rhode Island for the fall 2022 semester.
Hannah Mall and Michael Surozenski, both of Hampton Bays, were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester at Quinnipiac University, as was Grace Horan of Sagaponack.
