The artwork of Eastport-South Manor Jr.-Sr. High School ceramics students James Kreiling and Allie Zadow has been chosen for exhibit in the Colors of Long Island: Student Expressions exhibition at The Long Island Museum in Stony Brook to be held from February 18 to April 7. Colors of Long Island provides a platform for Long Island students to exhibit their work in a museum setting. Art teachers were invited to submit up to two pieces of student artwork. The Southampton Elementary School Student Council recently collected, paired and bagged gently used children’s shoes to be sent with a medical team from Southampton that is participating in a surgical mission to Uganda as part of Operation International. “It’s an enriching experience for our students to support other children and families around the world and to learn how they can make a difference,” said advisers Lisa Carew and Anne Marie Calogrias. The talented actors and actresses of Westhampton Beach Middle School will present a comedic production of “The Ransom of Miss Elverna Dower” on Friday and Saturday, January 26 and 27, at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, January 28, at 2 p.m. Tickets are free. Fifth grade students at Westhampton Beach Elementary School presented a performance of “Pirates! The Musical” by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson on January 11. Directed by music teacher Alexandra Gogas, the production told the story of a musical group of pirates, led by the King of the High C's, on their way to a singing contest. The Southampton Police Department D.A.R.E. and Officer Vecchio visited the East Quogue School District to teach students about the consequences of drug use, the importance of making responsible choices, and strategies for resisting peer pressure.
