In honoring the memory of President Jimmy Carter, Hampton Bays Elementary School students recently learned more about his life. Fourth-graders in Karly Schmitt’s class watched videos and researched important facts about the 39th president. Second-graders  in Kaleigh McLaren’s class studied his contributions to the country. Southampton Intermediate School students have been participating in Zumba fitness during their physical education classes through the instruction of guest Zumba instructor Sabrina Manglaviti. As part of the activity, students are being introduced
to a variety of international rhythms and movements while familiarizing themselves with another form of physical activity where they can express themselves and de-stress.

Fifth grade students at Westhampton Beach Elementary School recently presented a performance of “Bebop with Aesop,” a musical based on five of Aesop's fables, including “The Tortoise and the Hare” and “The Boy Who Cried Wolf.” Music teacher Alexandra Gogas, who directed the production, said she selected it because it “teaches the various morals from each fable in a very fun and entertaining fashion with great music.” The production featured 45 cast and crew members. The Society of Professional Journalists is accepting entires for its 2025 high school essay contest. The topic for applicants is “What is the biggest challenge journalists face today, and how might they overcome it?” The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, February 19. The contest is part of the SPJ Foundation of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Journalism Education Association goal to increase high school students’ knowledge and understanding of the importance of independent media to our lives. Scholarships Available for Students Pursuing Health Care Education

The East Hampton Healthcare Foundation has expanded its student scholarship program and will now award two scholarships in 2025. The health care education scholarships will award $2,500 per year of study to two graduating high school seniors in the Town of East Hampton who will be pursuing a health care education at a two-year technical school or four-year college. Special consideration will be given to applicants in the BOCES nursing program who are intending to work in health care in East Hampton Town after graduation.
