Southampton Elementary School Student Council members honored members of the military and their families by placing flags on their graves for Memorial Day. It was a transformational experience for the students to see the difference before and after the placement of the flags. As they placed the flags, the students said the name of the person at each gravesite and thanked them for their service. Advisers Lisa Carew and Annemarie Calogrias said they are very proud of the students for their service to the community and school throughout the year. COURTESY SOUTHAMPTON SCHOOL DISTRICT

Layla Warsaw, Ryan Janotta and Ryan Lee received Highest Honors during the 2023 Long Island Science Congress. for their research titled, “tRNA Methyltransferases: A New Hope in the Battle Against Antibiotic Resistance.” Additionally, the trio won two awards recognizing their work in the senior division: The Science Teachers Association of New York State Award and The Long Island STEM Education Leader Association Award of Excellence in STEM. Entries Sought for Art of Healing Showcase

In honor of National Recovery Month, the Town of Southampton Addiction, Recovery and Behavioral Health Committee is seeking entries for an upcoming visual art exhibition, “The Art of Healing,” which is set to take place on Saturday, September 21, from 3 to 6 p.m. at East End Arts, 141 East Main Street in Riverhead. The exhibition aims to spotlight the power of creative arts to inspire and heal. Elmira College recently announced this year’s recipients of its annual Key Award. Among the recipients are Anthony Petersohn and James Wolfe, both of East Hampton.
