Hampton Bays High School welcomed prekindergartners in the Just for Kids program to the school’s greenhouse on May 26 to support its gardening unit. Led by high school science teacher Dr. Stephanie Forsberg, the students observed and learned about the resident banana plant, lemon tree, and snake and aloe plants. They also brought some plants back to their classroom to tend and grow roots hydroponically. “Hampton Bays is going to have some amazing gardens in the years to come as these budding botanists continue to grow and learn,” said Forsberg. Southampton High School students taking Latin 4 further explored Roman leadership during a recent trip to the Southampton Art Center. The students learned the names of the leaders and emperors on display in the backyard of the art center and plan to research their political backgrounds. As part of their science, technology, engineering and math curriculum, second grade students at Hampton Bays Elementary School recently tested their engineering skills by constructing boats in the school’s STEM lab. They built the boats using Popsicle sticks, straw and duct tape and tested their inventions to see how many marbles they could carry while floating in a kiddie pool.
