Last month, students at Eastport Elementary School hosted a NCAA-inspired March Math Madness Competition. Students in each class competed against each other each week, and the class earning the most “First in Math” stickers per student advanced to the next round. When the competition was complete, Mrs. Cucciniello’s class had defeated Mr. Oldenborg’s class in the final week. They were presented with the coveted “Golden Calculator” trophy on April 1.
“I liked being able to compete while still learning,” said fifth-grade student Zury Sy. “I learned so much about multiplying decimals and fractions.”
