Bridgehampton School sixth graders answered questions using the scientific method at their grade-level science fair. The students, including Eli McCleland, shared their research and results with fellow students, staff and visitors, highlighting their pride in putting together their experiments, using data to find conclusions and interpreting them. Bridgehampton High School junior Sheily Ruiz Soto was one of dozens of students who participated in LIU Post’s Virtual Enterprise Leadership Conference on November 4. Accompanied by teacher Kameron Kaiser, Sheily listened to keynote speaker Chuck Garcia, assistant dean at LIU and noted public speaker and motivator. She then went to breakout groups in which the students worked in small groups to complete a leadership challenge or skit. Sheily had an opportunity to share her Cast Iron Cuisine concept. The artwork of Eastport-South Manor Jr.-Sr. High School student Emily Tracy was chosen for the cover of the 2022-23 yearbook. Tracy’s design was one of more than 100 photos or designs submitted and was chosen by the members of the Junior High Yearbook Club. After reading the book, "Duck for President" by Doreen Cronin, they participated in their own election day. Westhampton Beach High School marked Red Ribbon Week during the week of November 7 with a variety of anti-drug and alcohol activities. Wearing red bracelets in support of the initiative, students participated in presentations about Leandra’s Law, blood alcohol concentration, driving under the influence, consequences and social hosting laws. They also played a “drug-free bingo” game in their health classes and adorned cars in the school’s parking lot with red ribbons and drug-free messages. Serving as a reminder to not drink and drive was a crashed car in front of the school circled by red pinwheels. Students also decorated the fence along their school with a drug-free message. The event featured dance acts that highlighted diversity in the school. In addition, students carried paper “passports” to tour the different countries represented at stations set up by families. In honor of World Kindness Day, Hampton Bays Elementary School students in Becky Yakaboski’s class, including Erik Tenesaca Pacho, promoted positivity and kindness by sharing hundreds of Post-it notes around their school.
