Sherwood “Woody” Bernard Goldstein of Eastport died at his home on December 31. He was 76.

Mr. Goldstein grew up in Eastport and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. After college, he returned home and worked for many years at Goldstein’s Department Store in Eastport. He then worked for more than 30 years as a senior court clerk for Suffolk County Courts, retiring in 2002.

Mr. Goldstein was an active member of the Eastport Fire Department for 55 years and served as secretary and treasurer for many of those years. He also served as a board member for Temple Israel of Riverhead, a temple he loved and supported in many ways over the years. His great love of all sports, including traveling to many Super Bowls, was central to his life, as were his giving and loving ways, survivors said. He was a champion table tennis player and co-authored a book about the sport.

Mr. Goldstein is survived by a sister, Esther Printz and husband Robert of New Hyde Park; a niece, Karen Wolfson and husband Mark of Massachusetts; a niece, Stacy Mignone and husband Pat of Massapequa Park; and a nephew, Josh Printz and wife Alison of New Hyde Park. He is also survived by grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Emily, Aaron, Jacob, Lauren, Giancarlo and Hannah, as well as godsons, Matthew Mainzer and Jason Gajowski.

A funeral service was held on January 2 at Temple Israel in Riverhead. The family sat shiva in both Eastport and New Hyde Park. Interment took place at Mount Ararat in Farmingdale.

Memorial donations may be made to Temple Israel of Riverhead, the Eastport Fire Department or to East End Hospice.
