Breakfast at Tiffany's

Did you know: Breakfast is now served at Tiffany’s? Daniel Boulud opened the Blue Box Café at the Fifth Avenue flagship store. My daughter Melissa and I spent a night in the city specifically to be on line in front of the iconic building. We couldn’t get a reservation for the day when we had theater tickets, but six seats are reserved for walk-ins, as well as seven seats at the bar. We were the first on line. After the doors opened, we were escorted to the elevators that took us to the sixth-floor home department and the café. True ... 16 Dec 2024 by Denise Gray Meehan

Falsehoods

The recent falsehoods and attacks by certain Hampton Bays community members in The Southampton Press Letters to the Editor section needs to be called out and corrected. I was called out by name by several community members. The Southampton Press is a public paper, and when a person decides to engage in libel and falsehoods then a response is warranted. First, the Shinnecock Nation were the first inhabitants of the East End of Long Island. That is an undisputed fact. Second, the Shinnecock Nation has witnessed, since the 17th century, our lands stolen, abused and desecrated. More recently, my generation ... by Staff Writer

The Twilight Zone

On January 20, a draft-dodging “patriot” who has already spit on the U.S. Constitution by trying to overturn a free and fair election and mobilizing a violent mob to attack our Capitol will put his left hand on a Bible, raise his right hand and swear to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” “The Twilight Zone” never had such an insane episode! And they’d better have a firetruck standing by, because that book will probably burst into flames. Alex Burton East Quogue by Staff Writer

Unfair Attacks

How unfortunate it is that one of the most beloved citizens of our village is under attack, in Letters to the Editor and, in fact, by The Press, in your choosing to highlight her purported “violations” on the front page [“Southampton Village Ethics Board Finds Trustee Robin Brown Violated Code With Attendance at Fundraisers,” 27east.com, December 6]. There is no question that Robin Brown, who is our only female trustee, has tirelessly worked on our beaches and our lakes and with our fine police and with all of her other responsibilities. In return, she is targeted for attending two events ... by Staff Writer

End the Embargo

I read the viewpoint “Cuba Teeters on the Brink of Collapse” [Opinion, December 12], and I didn’t find any mention of the 64-year-old embargo on Cuba. The embargo was designed in 1960 to bring hunger and misery to the Cuban people, with the expectation that it would lead to the overthrow of the Cuban government. It hasn’t worked — only the hunger and misery has worked. I witnessed the life of the Cubans on my numerous trips to Cuba doing mission work with the First Presbyterian Church. We have lived in their homes and in their church, experiencing their way ... by Staff Writer

A Safer World

I’m glad to see that Paula Angelone, Ph.D, in “The American Way” letter [November 14], acknowledges that President-elect Donald Trump will end the war in Ukraine and bring peace to the Middle East. Ms. Angelone criticizes the president-elect if he solves all the problems that plague us as wrong because they are solved via a skewed narrative. The Trump narrative. That, Ms. Angelone, is called leadership. Something that in the last four years we saw nothing of the kind. The reality is, solving conflict in complex situations requires compromise by all parties. If Trump had been our president the last ... by Staff Writer

Heartfelt Thanks

On Friday, December 6, Eastern Suffolk Ducks Unlimited hosted its annual December dinner. This year, we hosted just under 200 supporters of Ducks Unlimited. The Eastern Suffolk Ducks Unlimited Committee is a group of dedicated volunteers of all ages from eastern Long Island. Through the efforts of these volunteer committees, Ducks Unlimited is able to pursue its mission of conserving, enhancing and restoring North America’s wetlands. The Eastern Suffolk Chapter made the top 100 fundraising chapters numerous times. Fundraising efforts by chapters throughout the states are the backbone of the organization, constantly making a difference for North American waterfowl populations. ... by Staff Writer

A True Gift

I had the pleasure of attending the winter concert at Tuckahoe School on December 12. The fourth grade ukulele chorus played “Count On Me” and “Frosty The Snowman.” The fifth grade band played “Merrily We Roll Along” and “Jingle Bells.” The sixth grade band played “Centurion,” “Up On The Roof Top” and “First Holiday Concert.” The seventh and eighth grade band played “Star Wars (main theme),” “Auld Lang Syne” and “Christmas Joy.” A terrific choice of music. The students were all very focused and had fun playing music for the audience of parents and friends and faculty. The concert was ... by Staff Writer
