Single Car Accident Snarls Morning Rush Hour On Sunrise

Southampton Town Police, New York State Troopers, and the East Quogue Fire Department responded to a vehicle rollover on Sunrise Highway Friday morning.

Traffic snarled on Sunrise Highway Friday morning, after a single car accident closed the highway for close to an hour.

A single car rollover accident closed Sunrise Highway, bringing the morning trade parade to a halt on Friday morning.

State Police received a call at 8:10 a.m., alerting them to a vehicle rollover in Westhampton in the westbound lane near exit 64. State troopers reported one injury that required the deployment of a medevac helicopter. The driver, German Medina-Quinones, 28, of Ronkonkoma, fell asleep and lost control of his 2004 Nissan Murano. No tickets were issued following the crash.

Full closure of the highway was completed in under an hour, with one westbound lane closed until approximately 10 a.m.

Autism Seminar For First Responders Set For April 25

The Flying Point Foundation for Autism has joined forces with Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, Division of Emergency Medical Services to hold a seminar to help first responders better understand and react to the special circumstances that can arise at an emergency involving people with autism. Southampton Police Reports for the Week of March 27

QUOGUE — On March 22 at 9:15 p.m. Cristian Valdespino Castro, 23, of East Quogue was arrested by Quogue Police and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, and cited for an equipment violation. Police said they pulled her over after seeing her driving on Dune Road with an inoperable license plate lamp. During the traffic stop, an investigation revealed that she was driving while under the influence of drugs, police said. Police did not specify which drug or drugs. Southampton DWI Arrests for the Week of March 27

Daniel Garity, 52, of Hampton Bays was arrested by Southampton Town Police shortly before 5 p.m. on March 21 and charged with misdemeanor DWI after police were called to the scene of a car accident at the intersection of Quogue Riverhead Road and Oakville Avenue in East Quogue. Garity suffered multiple injuries in the accident and was taken to the hospital for treatment where he was issued an order to appear in court at a later date for arraignment.
