The Southampton Town Board this week approved allocating $358,000 from the Community Preservation Fund’s water quality improvement grants to a stormwater remediation project at Bay Drive in Hampton Bays. The money will be used to install a stormwater runoff “capture and conveyance” system at the end of the road near the shoreline to Shinnecock Bay. The capture system will send rain water through a treatment and separator device called First Defense to reduce the amount of pollutants, debris and nitrogen that reaches the bay.
