Atlantic Green Sea Turtle Makes Brief Visit To Ponquogue Beach

The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation responded to Hampton Bays on Wednesday night after a large Atlantic green sea turtle was spotted on the sand at Ponquogue Beach. Foundation officials said that while no nesting attempt was made, the female turtle, measuring approximately 4.5 feet, spent nearly two hours crawling around the sand before returning to the ocean. The foundation requests that the public report all turtle sightings and large disturbances in the sand by calling its hotline at 631-369-9829.
