Southampton Town Police announced on Thursday that they have arrested a Farmingville man in connection with the September armed robbery of a Flanders deli. Police say that Demario L. Weston Jr., 22, entered the El Quetzal Deli on Flanders Road at about noon on September 23 and pointed a gun at the clerk, demanding she hand over cash in the register. The clerk told police that the man then struck her with the handgun he was holding multiple times before making off with $6,000 in cash from the store. The body of a Riverside man reported missing in November last year was found in a wooded area off Route 114 in East Hampton on Monday, January 6. According to Southampton Town Police, a hunter in the woods located the body, and East Hampton Town Police and detectives, as well as Suffolk County homicide detectives, responded. The Suffolk County medical examiner’s office was contacted and removed the body for further investigation. The deceased was identified as Luis Vargas-Arias, 56. The Suffolk County district attorney’s office announced last week that it had indicted a Southampton businessman on two felonies for allegedly intentionally misclassifying employees’ work categories so as to underpay employees more than $83,000 for a public contract job on Fire Island. The D.A.’s office says that Bob Terry, 65, the owner of Terry Contracting & Materials, had secured a government contract for work at Davis Park Marina on Fire Island that required that employees be paid prevailing wage.
