A Legal Aid Society investigator’s lawsuit brought against Southampton Village to obtain police department rules and regulations has been resolved after the police department supplied the requested documents, with redactions. The investigator, Richard Burns, filed a Freedom of Information request in person at the Southampton Village Police Department in January and made the same request of several other East End police departments that month. Two Southampton Town Police officers have filed separate lawsuits this fall alleging discrimination against them by department superiors over long periods of time. The Southampton Village Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to suspend for 30 days, without pay, a village dispatcher who has been on paid administrative leave since September 16 after he accidentally discharged a legally owned handgun while in a moving vehicle on September 14 in Water Mill. Emergency responders who were called to report of a missing swimmer in Sagaponack on October 4 found a 73-year-old Swiss man unconscious on the beach nearby.
