HAMPTON BAYS — An East Quogue man reported to Southampton Town Police that someone stole his e-bike from outside a Montauk Highway business on February 10. The man said the bike was parked at the business at 6:30 a.m. and when he returned shortly after noon it was gone. Jonathan Swezey Raynor, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, and mentor, passed away on February 6, 2025, at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue. He was 74. Jonathan was born on March 30, 1950, the son of Robert Clinton Raynor and Dorothy Raynor (née Swezey). He was raised in Remsenburg and graduated from Westhampton Beach High School before attending SUNY Oswego, where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betsy” Gaylord. The Southampton Inn owner’s plan for a resort hotel off Hill Street received a green light from the Southampton Village Board last week in a 4-1 vote. The board approved a special permit during its Thursday, February 13, meeting, although the resort hotel still needs approval from the village’s land-use boards before the plan can proceed. The Southampton Village Board heard mixed reviews last week regarding two proposed village laws, one that would establish a tax exemption for historic properties and another to require a village permit before a homeowner may remove a tree over a certain size from within property setbacks.
