I’d like to respond to Andrea Klausner’s latest missive [“Not Productive,” Letters, February 6] defending the indefensible John Leonard. My attacks on Democratic candidates are neither hyperbolic, hateful, libelous or unrelenting. The statements I have made about John Leonard are true and accurate. I’ve voted Democratic locally for years, championing candidates and using any influence in my own circles to garner votes and support for men and women of integrity with a passion to serve our community. Greed has overtaken the beautiful seaside villages all over the Hamptons. How and why has this been allowed to happen? As a resident of Southampton Town for over 40 years, more than half my life, I’m astounded and disgusted by the skyrocketing rents that are increasing every year and forcing out educated, stable, good, productive citizens. After my landlord intended to more than triple my rent, to $3,000 per month, I was evicted from my home of 35 years. This is America, a country that is home to millions of immigrants who have enriched Mr. Smith’s life in ways I am sure he cannot even begin to comprehend. I lament writing this because I respect the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center’s mission. My hand is forced, however, to counter the false narratives about my board membership spread by Virginia Frati [“A Loose Cannon,” Letters, February 6] and Laurie Anderson [“A Bully,” Letters, February 6].
