Stephen B. Furman Dies May 8

Stephen B. Furman, husband of Amy Thompson originally from Southampton, died on May 8. He was 52.

Mr. Furman was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on April 23, 1964 and graduated from McKean High School in 1982, the College of William and Mary in 1986, and later earned a master’s degree in urban affairs and public policy from the University of Delaware. He owned and operated Bluestone AM LLC, a real estate management company.

Diagnosed with leukemia in 1997, he received a bone marrow transplant in 1998; his father was the donor. He received a second bone marrow transplant in 2014. After the first transplant, he focused on enjoying every minute of his life, survivors said. He wholeheartedly participated in numerous organizations including the Edenridge III Civic Association, Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church and Concord Soccer Association. He was a loyal fan of everything William and Mary, Blue Hen football, and Wilmington Friends athletics.

Survivors said he will be remembered for his dry humor, intellect, incredible memory, love of music and his way with words.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ian; his mother, Barbara; a sister, Tamatha and husband Bill; and his mother-in-law, Diane Deutschman. He was predeceased by his father, Bruce.

A funeral took place at the Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church on May 14.
