New York State Police have arrested a New York man they say conned two elderly residents — one in Hampton Bays and the other in Holtsville — out of more than $30,000.
Troy M. Davis, 33, was arrested by New York State Police on May 21 in New York City and charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud, both felonies.
Police said the incident dates back to February 28. Police said he told the victims that one of their family members had been arrested and needed bail money. Mr. Davis acted as a courier, police said, and intentionally deprived the two elderly people out of money totaling $31,500.
New York State Police and the Financial Crimes Unit of Suffolk County Police Department conducted a joint investigation and collaborated on the arrest.
