Thank you to those who voted for Donald Trump for president. You have given us a president who, less than 24 hours after the national tragedy of losing 67 souls in an air crash over Reagan National Airport, had the audacity to stand before the American public and the world and blame DEI — diversity, equity and inclusion — hiring.
This, of course, had nothing to do with an investigation, because it was too soon to have had one. This had nothing to do with actual evidence, because he provided none. This had nothing to do with compassion for the loved ones of those who were killed in the crash, because they were barely mentioned.
But he was, as usual, politicizing a situation in order to advance his own agenda.
This is not unusual behavior for him, but this was a national tragedy, and the impression he left after his horrific, unprofessional and, frankly, cruel news conference was that all of those grieving should blame DEI hiring, air traffic controllers, former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and Pete Buttigieg, former transportation secretary, for a tragic accident.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Department of Defense will get to the bottom of this and, hopefully, initiate a plan to prevent this from ever happening again.
But there will be those people around the country who will never question Trump’s reckless comments and just choose to believe what he says. Evidently for many in this country, especially those who voted for Trump, that’s a lot simpler than thinking for yourself.
