Treasured Memories

It takes a village to sustain a small independent bookshop for over 40 years, and it takes a village to help that same bookshop pack up its hand-selected collection, odd furniture, treasured artwork and memorabilia.

Our tremendous thanks to the many folks who helped with this enormous task, one that challenged us physically, emotionally, psychically, spiritually. Our beloved staff and friends volunteered long hours to pack and haul boxes. They found time to bake banana bread, bring pot pies, deliver lunches, transport donations to various local nonprofits, and keep our spirits buoyed.

Many contributed to our GoFundMe campaign. We’re humbled by that generosity. We’ve received platters of cookies, bouquets of flowers, and a bottle of Sambuca at just the right moment. All these expressions of love touch our hearts.

A neighborhood bookshop doesn’t endure over 40 years without the support of loyal customers who bought books, attended events and participated in marathon readings. Many wrote beautiful letters of support to the papers over the past several months. We’re deeply moved by all these efforts. Further gratitude goes to the many local organizations and sponsors who’ve partnered with us over the years.

The Moby Dick Marathon Reading will take place once again in June 2025. Information will appear on our website.

We continue to search for an appropriate place for Canio’s Books and hope to share that good news as soon as we can.

With love and gratitude,
