Oakland’s Restaurant and Marina owner Doug Oakland of Hampton Bays died Wednesday after losing a battle with pancreatic cancer.
In addition to being an active business owner, Mr. Oakland was a local philanthropist, known for helping others. He hosted countless fundraisers for people in the community at his Dune Road restaurant.
“He was somebody who always stepped up to the plate, and whenever anybody was in need of something, he was the first one to help them achieve their goals ... whatever it would be,” said Southampton Town Councilman Stan Glinka, a friend of Mr. Oakland’s for many years.
Mr. Oakland also owned Sundays On the Bay on Dune Road in Hampton Bays and served as the president of the Hampton Bays Board of Education for several years.
Funeral services for Mr. Oakland have yet to be announced.
