UPDATE: Vice President Kamala Harris To Attend Fundraiser in Water Mill Thursday

UPDATE: 2:30 p.m.

According to Vice President Kamala Harris’s schedule, she is due to attend a fundraiser at an undisclosed location in Water Mill Thursday evening.

Original Story:

Somebody’s coming, someone important, but nobody can say exactly who.

Southampton Town Police distributed a press release on Wednesday, July 27, alerting motorists to potential road closures on Sunrise Highway and County Road 39 during the afternoon of Thursday, July 28. They would not disclose why.

Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman, who also would not disclose who the visiting dignitary was, beyond saying it was not President Joe Biden, said “We’re providing security, and at the same time, we’re not permitted to talk about it for national security reasons.”

He said efforts were underway to work out the dignitary’s arrival “with minimal disturbance.”

In the past , when Biden visited during his tenure as vice president and when Donal Trump visited during his presidency, they landed at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton and rode in a motorcade to stay in Southampton Village at a home on First Neck lane. The Press learned the visiting dignitary is not Biden.

The website for the Federal Aviation Administration website lists “flight restrictions for VIP movement” at Gabreski for Thursday from 9:15 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. on Friday.

The closures on Sunrise Highway, as well as County Road 39 could imply a similar route as used by motorcades for Trump and Biden … for whoever it is.

Turning Point

The Southampton Arts Center was filled with incredible talent, energy and generosity last Thursday — both on stage and in the audience, it was an all-star lineup of the men and (mostly) women who run the region’s nonprofit organizations. Having gathered for an Express Sessions conversation, it turned into a clarion call: Arts organizations, charities helping to feed families, groups focusing on aiding children, or animals, or historic preservation, or community health, or victims of domestic violence — they all had a unified message for the community — “we need help.” It must be said, the South Fork is a ... by Editorial Board
