As of Tuesday morning, the East Hampton boys basketball team was in first place in League IV with a 5-0 record (7-3 overall) after a pair of victories last week. After defeating Comsewogue, 61-46, at home on January 3, the Bonackers defeated host Shoreham-Wading River, 67-42, on Thursday, December 5. East Hampton handed Comsewogue its first league loss of the season last week behind the strong play of Jack Dickinson (17 points), Liam Fowkes (15) and Luke Reese (15). Reese poured in 20 points in the win over Shoreham while Fowkes chipped in with 16.
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton boys swim team lost, 86-84, to Half Hollow Hills on Friday evening at the East Hampton YMCA RECenter. The Bonackers are 2-2 in League II, 4-3 overall. East Hampton freshman Liam Knight was named Bonac’s Swimmer of the Meet. He swam a personal best and Section XI qualifying time in the 100-yard freestyle (52.66 seconds).
Savion Ward had 20 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and four steals in the Bridgehampton boys basketball team’s 79-38 victory at Shelter Island on January 4. Alex Davis added 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Kris Vinski (13) and Dylan Fitzgerald (10) also reached double figures in points. The Killer Bees (6-0 in League V, 7-4 overall) have beaten all fellow Class D schools the first time through their schedule.
After suffering a 59-36 loss at home to Southampton on January 4, their first League V loss of the season, the Whalers (5-2 in League V, 5-5 overall) rebounded nicely with a 71-52 victory at Smithtown Christian the next day on January 5, then defeated Shelter Island, 76-23, at home on Saturday. Luke Seltzer scored a game-high 23 points in both wins over Smithtown Christian and Shelter Island and he had scored a team-high 14 points in the loss to Southampton.
The Mariners 59-36 victory at Pierson on January 4 should make their path to the boys basketball League V title a little easier. They defeated host Mattituck, 89-54, on Thursday, January 5, to improve to 4-0 in League V, 8-3 overall. Naevon Williams filled up the state sheet against Mattituck with 25 points, five steals and eight rebounds. Tyson Reddick scored 23 points. Derek Reed scored 21 points in the win at Pierson. Alex Franklin added 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Southampton girls basketball team’s big 22-9 first half lead stood up as it defeated host Babylon, 39-30, on January 3. Daelyn Palmore led all scorers with 14 points and CeCe Ginsberg had 12 points for the Mariners (2-4 in League V, 4-8 overall).
The Hampton Bays boys basketball team handed Mount Sinai its first League IV loss of the season in a 68-65 home victory on January 3. Gianni Scotto’s third three-pointer of the game gave the Baymen the lead with under a minute remaining and helped them overcome a six-point deficit in the game’s final four minutes. Scotto finished with 13 points. Kazmin Pensa-Johnson had a triple-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists and Isaiah Lattanzio had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Two nights later, on January 5, Hampton Bays defeated Eastport-South Manor, 67-46, at home to improve to 4-1 in League IV (9-2 overall). Patrick Donahue had a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds in that win.
The Westhampton Beach boys basketball team’s first League IV victory of the season came at crosstown rival Eastport-South Manor, 67-51, on January 3. Jorden Bennett scored a game-high 22 points, Quinn McCormack added 18 points and Avery Merrihew chipped in with 11 points. The ’Canes are 1-5 in League IV, 3-7 overall.
A 35-31 victory over Eastport-South Manor and a 50-29 victory over Mount Sinai, both at home on January 3 and 5, respectively, ran the Westhampton Beach Hurricanes girls basketball team win streak to seven games, as of Tuesday morning. Kylah Avery had 14 points and eight rebounds in the win over the rival Sharks while Sandra Clarke led the offense with 16 points in the win over Mount Sinai. Westhampton Beach is 5-0 in League IV, 10-2 overall.
