Jack Dickinson allowed a run, two hits and struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings in the Bonackers 2-1 nonleague home victory over Sayville on March 30. Hunter Eberhart struck out two of the four batters he faced in the win. East Hampton (1-2 overall) had lost its season opener, 13-0, at Miller Place the day prior and lost, 6-1, at Bayport-Blue Point on Monday.
The East Hampton girls flag football team lost its inaugural game, 31-13, at William Floyd on March 24, and lost its most recent game, 43-6, at Half Hollow Hills this past Friday.
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls track team (1-0-1 in League V) tied host Comsewogue, 63-63, on March 29. Due to a bussing issue, the girls didn’t get to Comsewogue until 5:30, according to head coach Yani Cuesta, about a half hour after the meet was scheduled for, and by the time they warmed up, the meet started closer to 6 p.m. Therefore none of the relays were competed and the long jump was basically competed in the dark. Also, Cuesta said Comsewogue didn’t provide a pole vault so Isabel Doyle was awarded five points since she was ready to compete. There were a number of personal and season’s bests and top performances in the win. East Hampton junior Ryleigh O’Donnell won the 400-meter run in 63 seconds, the 800-meter run in a season’s best 2:31.1 and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in what was also a season’s best 72.5 seconds. Bridgehampton senior Leslie Samuel won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 13.1 and 27.6 seconds respectively. Pierson senior Meredith Spolarich won the high jump with a season’s best height of 4 feet 10 inches.
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton boys track team (1-1 in League V) defeated Comsewogue, 60-57, at home on March 30.
The Southampton boys tennis team defeated Eastport-South Manor, 4-3, at home on March 30 to improve to 2-2 overall.
The Hampton Bays boys track team defeated host Miller Place, 76-65, in its season opener on March 27.
Kevin Smith pitched five innings and allowed one run and struck out five in the Westhampton Beach baseball team’s 4-2 victory at Hampton Bays on March 29. Jacob Permakoff got the win in relief pitching two innings. Smith also scored a run, drove in a run and stole a base. Ryan Knieriemen hit a double, drove in a run, scored and stole a base. Riley Miller and Declan Kerns each had two hits for the Hurricanes (1-3 overall) that included a double.
Morgan McEntee scored four goals with an assist to lead the Hurricanes (1-3 overall) in their 19-2 victory at home over North Babylon. Nolan Michalowski added three goals and won 21 faceoffs, and Jojo Poerschke scored two goals with four assists.
