The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls track team defeated Half Hollow Hills West, 100.5-48.5, at home on April 12, and are 3-0 in League VI dual meets to start the season. Head coach Yani Cuesta said she thinks the last time the team had a winning streak was 2016. The Bonackers swept the 3,000-, 1,500- and 800-meter races and the discus. Sara O’Brien won the 3,000 in 13:53.57 while Dylan Cashin won the 1,500 (7:06.81) and 800 (2:47.9). Ryleigh O’Donnell won the 400-meter dash in 63.6 seconds, Alexa Gomez won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in a personal best 79.4 seconds, Davi Trowbridge won the 1,500-meter race walk in a personal best 14:49.94, Becca Trowbridge won the discus with a personal best throw of 69 feet 6 inches, Meredith Spolarich won the long jump with a personal best leap of 15 feet 3 ½ inches and Leslie Samuel placed second with a season’s best leap of 14 feet 11 ½ inches. Samuel also placed second in the 200-meter dash in 28.2 seconds.
After losing, 1-0, at Kings Park on April 13, the East Hampton softball team (1-4 League V, 3-6 overall) lost a nonleague game, 8-7, at home to Southold/Greenport the very next day.
The East Hampton/Pierson girls lacrosse team (2-5 Division II, 79.74 power points) won its second consecutive game with an 18-5 victory at Southampton (0-6 Division II) on April 12. Melina Sarlo scored five goals and assisted on two others. Claire McGovern, Emma McGrory and Ava Tintle each scored three goals.
The Killer Bees (6-0 League VIII) defeated host Shelter Island, 17-2, on Thursday, April 14, to complete a three-game series that began with the Islanders on April 5. In between that time, Bridgehampton/Ross swept Greenport, starting with a 5-1 victory on the North Fork on April 11, then a doubleheader sweep (15-5, 10-1) of the Porters at home on April 13. Kris Vinski went 6 for 7 and drove in 12 runs total in the doubleheader. Milo Tompkins and Hugo Kapon each drove in four runs in the win over Shelter Island and Alexi Kardaras hit a home run.
The Islanders fell to 3-4 in Division I play after an 11-6 loss at home to Patchogue-Medford on April 12 and a 14-6 loss at Sachem East on April 14.
Pierson (7-2 League VIII) won the third and final game of its series with Southold, 26-7, on April 13 to avoid being swept by the Settlers, who won the first two games of the series, 7-1, 7-4, in the two days prior. Poor defense could be to blame for Pierson’s losses, having made five errors in the first game of the series and six in the second. The Whalers only made one error in the third game, but it didn’t seem to matter much as they broke out the bats. Dan Labrozzi and Reed Kelsey each had five hits. Kelsey drove in five runs while Labrozzi and Gavin Gilbride each drove in four.
The Whalers (1-3 League VII) defeated Shelter Island, 22-6, at home on April 12 to pick up their first victory of the season.
The Baymen (2-3 League VI, 2-6 overall) defeated Amityville, 16-4 and 20-6, respectively, in a doubleheader on April 12 to earn their first victories of the season.
Just three days after picking up a big victory over Mount Sinai, the Westhampton Beach girls lacrosse team picked up another big win, 11-10, this time over host Shoreham-Wading River on April 12. Olivia Rongo scored five goals and had three assists, Ava Derby and Reese King both had three goals and Maya Farnan made eight saves for the Hurricanes, who are 6-1 Division II, 7-1 overall, with 134.29 power points, good enough for fourth place.
Since winning their first two games of the season, which were nonleague contests, the Hurricanes (3-3 Division II, 5-3 overall, 103.53 power points) have followed up each victory with a loss. That trend continued last week. After defeating host Elwood/John Glenn on April 11, Westhampton Beach suffered an 11-10 loss at home to Smithtown West on April 13. Will Fitzsimmons scored the game-winner with 6:33 remaining in the fourth quarter for the Bulls, then Tim Vanderbrink and Aidan Greene caused a turnover with 10 seconds remaining to secure the win. Dan Naglieri scored four goals for the ’Canes.
The Westhampton Beach boys tennis team improved to 9-1 last week with 7-0 victories over Riverhead at home on April 12 and at Longwood on April 14.
The Hurricanes (0-5 League IV, 1-6 overall) have lost their past four games by an average of two runs, the latest being an 8-6 nonleague loss at Connetquot on April 14.
After winning the first game of the series, 5-4, on April 11, the Westhampton Beach baseball team lost the next two games of the series, 12-1 and 15-8, to Half Hollow Hills West to fall to 1-8 in League V.
