The Bonackers won, 5-0, at Greenport/Southold on Friday to improve to 7-2 on the season. Toby Allen scored a pair of goals and Emma McGrory, Kerri O’Donnell and Melina Sarlo each found the back of the cage.
The East Hampton boys soccer team lost, 2-1, at Eastport-South Manor on Friday marking its first League IV loss of the season eight games in. Michael Figueroa scored in the second half for the Bonackers (7-1 in League IV, 9-2 overall).
The Bonackers (7-6 in League VI) defeated host Comsewogue, 3-1, on October 6 in set scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-7 and 25-14. Emma Terry recorded 35 digs and seven aces to go along with four kills in the victory while Amaya Pingle paced the offense with 10 kills. Baye Bogetti had seven kills and five service aces while Ella Eggert recorded 24 digs and Scout Lynch had 24 assists and 11 digs. Jhoselyne Munoz had 13 digs.
The East Hampton/Pierson girls swim team (3-1-1 overall) earned its second League III victory of the season when it defeated host West Islip, site of the upcoming league championships, 56-45, on October 3. The Bonackers jumped out to a 7-3 lead after the first event, the 200-yard medley relay, and were able to hold onto the lead throughout, though West Islip came within 5 points of the lead after the 500 free, 35-30. East Hampton had a big one-two finish in the next event, the 200 free relay, to push the lead to 44-31. After both teams scored even at 4-4 in the backstroke, the Caplin sisters, Lily and Isabelle, scored a big one-two finish in the breaststroke, earning a 7-1 victory there to secure the win before the meet’s final event, the 400 free relay.
Meredith Spolarich’s hat trick led the Pierson field hockey team to a 5-0 victory at Babylon on Friday. Ashley Stuckart and Tahnie Sullivan also scored. The Whalers are 4-6 this season.
The Southampton boys soccer team defeated host Babylon, 2-1, on Saturday, thanks to a late goal by Nicholas Gonzalez that proved to be the game winner for the Mariners, who improved to 8-3-1 in League V and clinched a postseason berth with the victory. The Mariners had lost, 1-0, at home to Babylon earlier in the season. Christian Duggal scored the lone goal in the first half to give Southampton an early 1-0 lead. The Mariners also defeated Port Jefferson, 2-0, at home on October 6. Duggal and Andy Panza scored in that victory while Riley Herrmann made five saves in goal for the shut out.
The Hampton Bays girls volleyball team clinched its first playoff berth since 2016 with a 3-0 win at Shoreham-Wading River Tuesday night — 25-17, 25-11, 25-10. Sophomore middle blocker Asha Pensa-Johnson had 16 kills and senior setter Brianna Quiros finished with 18 assists, 12 digs and six aces. With the victory, the Baymen improve to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in League VII.
Erik Sandstrom shot a 42 and Rieve Nydegger shot a 44 at The Woods at Cherry Creek to lead Hampton Bays to a 6-3 victory over Mattituck on October 6. The Baymen improved to 4-3.
The Hurricanes (5-3 League IV, 5-6-1 overall) won, 2-1, over Comsewogue at home on October 6. Ethan Vogt and Kade Murphree each scored a goal in the first half for Westhampton Beach, which has won three in a row and four of its last five games.
Sarah Gormley found the back of the net twice and Katie Baker also scored, all in the second half, to lead the Westhampton Beach girls soccer team (5-3 in League IV, 5-4-1 overall) to a 3-0 victory over Mattituck/Southold/Greenport at Southold High School.
The Hurricanes (11-1 in League IV, 13-2 overall) won their final two matches of the regular season last week, defeating host Riverhead, 7-0, on October 6, then defeated Center Moriches, 6-1, at home on Saturday. Both wins ensured the League IV title for Westhampton Beach, which should earn a high seed in the upcoming Section XI Team Tournament, which began on Wednesday with first round play. Second round play of the tournament is this Tuesday, October 18.
