I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be happier this election season is over. It seems each election, whether national or local, gets dirtier and nastier. I also know in just about every election I have participated—local, state or national—I have had to choose between the lesser of two evils. Will we ever get candidates we can actually champion for and get behind, rather than choose which one will do less to hurt our great country than the other?

Our local food pantry can sure use our help, the shelves are not stocked nearly as much as they should be and the holidays are right around the corner. If you would like to help out and donate, bring canned or non-perishable items to the Church of the Immaculate Conception Parish Center on Meeting House Road weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., after weekend services or call to set up a time to drop off items if you cannot make it during business hours.

The Westhampton Presbyterian Church will host a seminar about international education, focusing on Iraq and Kurdistan, on Friday, November 11. Emily Brewer, co-director of Presbyterian Peace Fellowship at Stony Point, will be the guest speaker. The seminar will held at the church, 90 Meeting House Road, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and registration is requested by calling 631-499-7171. Lunch will be served.

Kerrigan Country Realty, located at 122 Main Street, Westhampton Beach, along with Bideawee Westhampton, will hold a pet adoption day from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. And in honor of Veterans Day, all adoption fees for those who have or are currently serving in the military will be waived. For more information, call Bideawee at 631-325-0200.

The Westhampton Beach High School Business Advisory Council will hold a scholarship fundraiser at Boom Burger on Wednesday, November 16. Stop by Boom between 5 and 8 p.m. and 20 percent of your purchase will be donated to the WHB BAC scholarship fund. There will also be raffle and silent auctions prizes, including a foursome at Westhampton Country Club.

The Greater Westhampton Chamber of Commerce will host its next November Networking Dinner on Wednesday, November 16, at the Mill Roadhouse, 142 Mill Road. Check-in will begin at 6:15 p.m. with dinner starting at 8 p.m. Julienne Penza-Boon, the director of the Arts Academy at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, will be the guest speaker for the evening. The cost for dinner is $30, and RSVPs are requested by calling the chamber at 631-288-3337 or emailing info@whbcc.org.

And don’t forget to get your farmers market fix before it closes for the season on November 19. There are still some late summer/fall vegetables to enjoy as well as cheeses, breads and other great items. The farmers market is open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Westhampton Free Library has many great events and activities for folks of all ages this week. One event to check out is “Getting Ready to Babysit” on Saturday, November 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. Teenagers in grades six through nine are invited to learn the necessary skills to care for children, including child safety and hands-on activities that are age appropriate. Registration is required by calling the library at 631-288-3335. And don’t forget the library will be closed on Friday, November 11, for Veterans Day and there are more events and activities on their website, www.WesthamptonLibrary.net.

St. Mark’s Church will hold its holiday luncheon on Saturday, November 19, from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Admission is $15 and will benefit the St. Mark’s Youth Program; all are welcome. The menu includes chicken francaise, quiches (Lorraine or spinach and mushroom), salad, dessert and beverages. Whole quiches may be ordered to go. Reservations will be accepted, but are not required and take-out meals will be available. For more information, call 631-288-2111.

The Westhampton Presbyterian Church will hold its annual Tea and Bazaar on Saturday, December 3, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at 90 Meeting House Road. Gift items will be for sale, including fresh greens, jewelry, baked goods, and handmade ornaments and a miniature Norman Rockwell Village with all the trimmings. For more information, call the church office at 631-288-2576.
