Town of Shelter Island Seeking a Full-Time Senior Cook
Job Description
Under general supervision from the Nutrition Site Manager of the Town of Shelter Island the Senior Cook is responsible for creating a nutritious monthly menu for Home Delivered and Congregate Meal Programs and submit menu to Suffolk County Office of the Aging for approval. Supervises and is accountable for food being cooked and held at the proper temperatures for safe handling of the program’s meals. Monitors, records, and oversees temperatures of all outgoing food for both programs. Records all daily temperatures including refrigerator/ freezer temperatures for programs and submits to Suffolk County Office of the Aging on a monthly basis and/or as needed. Confirms the operation of the kitchen follows all Department of Health requirements.
Experience in cooking in a community center setting or for groups of 60-80 people. Knowledge in cooking nutritious and special request meals for older adults. Plans, directs, and conducts the cooking for the Senior Center nutrition food program including pre-planned menu, food service, and plate/tray line service. Orders and shops for meats, vegetables and other food and supplies as outlined in the annual Budget for the program and submits receipts/invoices immediately to Site Manager.
• Manages and delegates Kitchen responsibilities to kitchen staff.
• Reports to Site Reports to Site Manager Kitchen Staff’s attendance, issues and/or concerns.
• Ability to follow and transmit oral and written instructions plus ability to keep records and make reports.
