TOWN OF SHELTER ISLAND PLANNING BOARD MEMBER --
The Planning Board has jurisdiction over subdivision and lot line modification processes.
Planning Board Members are paid a total of $5,800.oo (paid semiannually), for their year of service attending in-person monthly meetings, reviewing applications, studying diagrams and maps, traveling to island construction and land use excavations sites, etc. It serves in the advisory capacity for site plan reviews, special permits, wetlands applications, and town regulations and policies.
The Planning Board is a five (5) member body that has administrative and regulatory roles that include discussions on submitted applications and to work with outside Civil Engineering and Land Surveying companies and outside Counsel when required.
The importance of board procedures, referral to the county planning agencies, and making findings that follow State Law and Town Code are also covered.
The Term of Service begins January 1, 2025 and is for five (5) Years.

Town of Shelter Island seeking Part-Time Social Worker/East End Drug Taskforce Member
The Social Worker candidate will provide social and community service recommendations and act as Counselor using short-term individual and family therapy, case management, advocacy, crisis intervention, education, and assistance with the application process for local, state and federal programs. Determine the individual needs for referral to community-based services including health care services, educational, employment opportunities, food insecurity/food stamps, childcare, personal safety, and housing.
In addition, the Social Worker will act as East End Opioid Taskforce Member by collaborating with care providers at the Shelter Island Medical Center, local Police Department, and other professionals on drug prevention and educational events. Taskforce member will be responsible for attending training on drug screening, brief intervention, client engagement, trauma-informed care and others duties relating to opioid and other substance use disorders.
Perform other related tasks as assigned.
College Degree specializing in Social Work and Counseling required. Possess knowledge of local resources for referral purposes. Experience working in the community to assess drug and opioid substance use and intervention options.
Up to 8 Hours per week as Case/Social Worker
Up to 8 Hours per week as East End Drug/Opioid Taskforce
Start Date: Immediate Hire
Hourly Salary: $53.41 Per Hour
